Local SEO Without the Magic

summary

Ranking a local business on Google is not a secret trick. It is a list of honest, boring fixes that all point in the same direction.

A map on a phone screen with location pins

Every local business owner has been promised page one of Google by someone. Usually by email, usually for a monthly fee, usually with no detail about what will actually be done.

The truth is less exciting and more useful. Local SEO is not magic. It's a long list of small, honest fixes that all tell Google the same clear story: who you are, what you do, and where you do it.

Here is where I start with every local business site.

Get the Basics Consistent

Your business name, address and phone number should be written exactly the same way everywhere: on your website, your Google Business Profile, and every directory. I have seen three different phone numbers on one business's site. Google notices that kind of thing.

Then make sure Google can actually read the site: a clean sitemap, sensible robots rules, no important pages hidden, no broken links in the footer.

One Page, One Job

Each service page should target one clear search phrase. When five pages all try to rank for 'contractor near me', they compete with each other and none of them wins.

  • Map every important keyword to exactly one page.

  • Write titles and headings for people first, search engines second.

  • Add structured data so Google understands your services and area.

Avoid the Shortcuts

Hundreds of near-identical city pages look tempting and usually backfire. So do fake reviews and bought links. Real reviews, real photos of real work and a site that answers real questions will outlast every shortcut. It's slower, and it works.

Let's Talk

I'm happiest when a website stops being a brochure and starts doing real work: bringing in leads, selling products and making people stop scrolling.
